This is a part of the process I really enjoy as there are so many options and I think it’s really interesting to try and group existing products together into different directions. The shape of the box was inspired by elements of cars such as bonnets and vent patterns, and I started experimenting with different split lines to add interest and break up the surfaces. However, after the initial round of concepts it was clear that the solutions were not really working - the designs seemed boring and too boxy. I explored the option of having a “bumper” type piece on the cuff to house the pump but after testing early mock ups and speaking to users, I decided to proceed with having the pump mounted directly to the cuff. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/59b286607131a58a8fad1efe/c8082bb7-3fed-4344-9556-a3a4d4f5c68e/images2.007.jpg Suji Pro Until this point, I had been focused on how to connect the pump to the cuff, and had not considered how to stack the parts and layers within the cuff so that it could withstand the necessary pressures. It was not an option to have the dock for the pump moulded into the cuff as the tooling cost was astronomical.
